A fire alarm control panel is the central controlling unit in a fire alarm system. Receiving information from fire detection devices the panel monitors their status and provides for automated equipment control.
If the panel receives a signal indicating an alarm condition it will activate a quick emergency response. This response can include sounding an alarm, calling the fire department and or activating the buildings sprinkler system.
The two main types of fire alarm control panels are conventional panels and addressable panels.
conventional panels work by responding to changes in an electrical current given by detection devices.
Addressable Panels use a microprocessor to send data from devices in the building to the panel. In this system each detection device has its own address so the panel can identify where the signal is coming from .
